Baby Proof Your Home - A Checklist to Help Keep Your Baby Safe ( Child Home Safety )

Child Home safety

Although it is an unfortunate event, nearly two to two and a half million children are injured, or killed by hazards within their home every year. However, on the positive side most can be prevented by using simple safety devices, that are on store shelves today. Keep in mind, that any safety device that you place into your home; should be sturdy enough to prevent injury. Below I have listed several items that will be of importance, while you are baby proofing your home.

* Safety latches and locks: for cabinets, drawers, toilets, and refrigerator. It is imperative that you use these to help prevent children from gaining access to deadly medications, household cleaners, sharp objects, and the possibility of drowning.

* Safety Gates: To help prevent trips, and falls down the stairs. They are also used to keep children away from areas that you deem hazardous. It is important to find gates that cannot be dislodged easily, however is easy for adults to open on close. For the top of the stairs, you will need gates that either attach to the walls or affix to banister railings.

* Door knob covers, and door Locks: These are used to help prevent children from entering a possibly dangerous, or supervision only room. This of course is not limited to your household, it also provides safety from swimming pools as well. Make sure that the cover is sturdy enough not to break, however it allows the door to be opened quickly by an adult in the case of an emergency.

*Anti Scald Devices: These are meant for faucets and shower heads, they essentially water temperature regulators. However, you should still turn your water heater temp to a maximum of one hundred and twenty degrees Fahrenheit.

* Smoke Detectors: These should have already been placed in the home, prior to the addition of your child. Smoke detectors should be placed on every level of the home, especially so in any room that may be heavy in electronics, such as the kitchen and living room. However, you should not allow bedrooms to go without either.

* Window guards and safety netting: Helps to prevent falls from windows, balconies, and landings. It is imperative that you guard your children from any possible injury from a fall.

* Corner and edge bumpers: This will help prevent possible concussions, caused by falls against sharp edges of furniture and fireplaces.

* Outlet covers and plates: This should be a no brainer, these items help to prevent electrocution. Make sure that the protectors cannot be easily removed by children, and large enough so that children cannot choke on them.

* Carbon Monoxide detector: Much like the smoke detector, these are items that should have already been in your home. These detectors help to prevent CO poisoning.
